Ecotone
In ‘Ecotone’ sounds from animal culture and communication are subjected to extreme transformation through digital processes, rendering them unnatural, much like how the integration of animals in our industrial processes strips them of their naturality. It is an endless loop through which the audience can navigate in and out of the bordering habitats. The intention is that of trance, introspection, dizziness, and déjà vu.

In the collage of extracts from footage the artist collected during a road trip in the USA in 2016, non-human animals are hidden away from the human gaze by design, or evolving at the fringes of human civilization. At the same time, we hear the cry of a transient killer whale being methodically destroyed through intense processing. Transient acts as a magnifying lens, zooming into the interplay between urbanization, nature, and our perception. It invites the audience to reconsider their connection to nature, rejecting the notion of a separate domain. The work challenges us to think ecologically, aligning with Eco(ed) Visions, which urges us to reassess our role as humans in shaping our relationship with the environment.

Claire Cical, also known as Quassine, is a Fluxus artist from southwest France. She ventures into all areas of multimedia expression, with an experimental approach focused on discovery that allows her to map new territories to be explored in the light of the machines of her manufacture. The interlacing between analog and digital is always at the center of her research, attempting to reconcile the nature that nourishes her and the technological world that devours her.
